AX5 20W-40 is Shell's grade-40 version with a 20W cold rating. Once warm, it isn't necessarily thicker than any 10W-40, and it is a separate product from AX5 20W-50.
Active Cleansing Technology in the AX5 line helps stop dirt particles turning into deposits. Shell's global reference shows API SL and JASO MA; if MA2 is claimed, confirm it on the local bottle.
20W-40 and 10W-40 share SAE hot class 40 but differ in their cold rating. These figures are not an ambient-temperature guide; stick to the viscosity range your manual approves.
Each bottle holds 1 Litre. How much goes into the engine is a separate number that depends on whether it is a plain refill, a filter service or a dry build, so check the figure in your exact manual.
